
Meet Dr. Sean C. McWatt
Assistant Professor, Western University

Dr. McWatt is primarily a human anatomy educator who has also taught courses on (or with elements of) neuroanatomy, embryology, educational philosophy, and the practice of teaching and process of learning in higher education. He is passionate about teaching and learning and has a long track-record of strong teaching performance in many courses across several academic levels, including undergraduate, graduate, and professional (medicine, dentistry, and rehabilitation sciences) programs. He has won and been nominated for several teaching and research awards throughout his career as a graduate student, teaching assistant, and assistant professor.
Dr. McWatt established The McLab at Western University in 2022, having previously led the SEANLab at McGill University. Through his work with numerous undergraduate and graduate trainees, he explores how students learn human anatomy and investigates ways to improve their learning outcomes using a variety of qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods approaches. His main research interests revolve around how various technologies, resources, environments, and teaching methods can influence students' motivations for learning, approaches to learning, performance, and long-term learning outcomes.
